Brainstorming  To begin constructing your how-to, you must first brainstorm at least ten to fifteen topic Ideas.  Ex. How to play football, basketball, soccer, pool, etc.  How to make a kite, boat, shirt, go-cart, slingshot, game etc.

Narrowing Down  After gathering possible topics then you must narrow them down to about two. Then keep an extra topic as a back up if needed.  Ex. How to make a kite or how to play pool (backup is how to make a slingshot).

Research  After narrowing down your topics you must research both of them and then make your final decision.

Gathering Graphics  Then you must gather graphics or pictures related to your topic.

Organization  Begin to organize your information as well as your graphics

Edit and Check  After completing your organization you must construct a rough draft and then edit and check over your work twice.

Making Sense  Follow the instructions that you gave and see if they make enough sense that a 6 year-old would be able understand it.  (Test It)

Adjusting  Make final adjustments to your rough draft to make it a final draft.

Finished  Publish your how-to ( or turn it into your teacher).
