THE ILLIAD Paris takes Helen from Greece to Troy. Agamemnon’s brother wants his wife back— Trojan War. Achilles is mad at Agamemnon. Achilles vs. Hector Gods\goddesses take sides—War endures for nine years. Athena Poseidon Hephaestus Hera Greeks Ares Apollo Artemis Aphrodite Troy

Iliad continued… Achilles joins fight. Hector dies. Zeus sides with Greeks. Odysseus’s plan—Trojan Horse Greeks win, and they leave.

Odysseus Wife: Penelope Son: Telemachus Home: Ithaca Problem : Suitors are bothering Penelope. He cannot get home after Trojan War. Goddesses detain him.

Classroom Expectations The reading will mostly be done in class. I will read a book; then the class will. Study guide questions completed in class or homework. COMPLETE SENTENCES WITH PUNCTION. I will stop reading periodically to check comprehension. There will be quizzes periodically. You will be quiet when a person reads aloud.

Hints… This is an abridged version with summaries and written in common language—not verse. Read the notes in the margins. They are funny and provide explanations of events. Read with inflection and energy. This will be as fun as you make it. Pay attention-even when you are not reading. Listening skills are key to success and comprehension. Enjoy! There is violence, love, and humor.
