What is formative assessment? Formative Assessment is: improvement focused not grade focused a process not a particular test or task used by both teacher and students provides feedback to teachers and students allows for adjustments in instruction and will improve students’ achievement

Why do formative assessment?  At least 20 studies show that the practice of formative assessment produces significant and often substantial learning gains (Black and Wiliam, 1986)  Formative assessment helps low achievers more than other students (Black and Wiliam)  It helps students become life long learners instead of focusing on competition of grades and fear of failure in low achievers
