Math Our curriculum is rigorous and challenging. Be ready to discuss questions with your child on their homework!!! Be watching for the Parent Letters that come home – they will explain our strategies for that Unit. Timed math facts tests Students are expected to practice and master addition and subtraction facts through 20. These tests will begin second semester (January).

In the Reading Wonders Program there is a strong emphasis in constructive responses. Meaning students will be asked to use “Text Evidence” to support answers about the story. Students will need to go back into the story to find the answer. Feel free to ask questions when reading at home: Where in the story can you find… What did you read that tells you that…. We will also be taking weekly vocabulary and comprehension tests. Reading Updates…

The 2 nd grade curriculum is more challenging. Last year teachers noticed that this is a hard transition for students. Due to new curricular demands in 2 nd grade, it is usual to see some lower grades in comprehension on the report card. Reading Updates…

How to support your student at home… Research strongly supports our beliefs that parental involvement is essential for a child’s reading development. When your child is reading at home please encourage them to read fluently (phrased and with expression). Also be sure to ask them some comprehension questions: Who were the characters? Setting? Any problems? Can you retell the story in your own words? What important events happened in the beginning/middle/end of the story?

Wonders at Home Search for “wonders” Type in your child’s username and password. Click on the book and work on the weeks vocab. and spelling! Activity Center

Spelling Students will take a pre-test on first day of the week, to determine which list they have that week. Studying for spelling tests is part of weekly homework. Test on last day of school week.
