ALYSON’S CAREER PATH How to become an actress.

MY CAREER GOALS I want to become a professional actress by To get there, I will need to: Graduate high school by Get the lead in the school musical in Grade 11 and 12. Get into Tisch University of the Arts, New York City. Get an undergraduate degree drama, and dance. Get a graduate degree in acting. Work with movie production companies such as Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, 20 th Century Fox, ect. Work on Broadway.

WHAT IS AN ACTRESS? Actresses interpret and perform roles for an audience using gestures, speech, and movements. Their job is simply to entertain. Some roles may be in comedies, tragedies, dramas, suspense thrillers, or even horror productions. In any of these, they must be phenomenal and dedicated. Tasks that one is responsible for when on the job: reading and memorizing scripts, and auditioning for roles spending long hours practicing with other actors, and rehearsing with directors, producers, writers, and other technical staff undertake long wardrobe fittings and makeup sessions be able to take directions and apply them being a detailed and efficient person

ABOUT MY FUTURE CAREER This job is done in multiple places. Some being recording studio, dance studio, film set, stage, or even in a public setting. If someone were to be on Broadway, their place of work would be a stage or dance studio. Whereas a television/film actress would generally be on a set, or in a studio. But they could work anywhere for that matter. The salary of an actress/performer in the U.S typically ranges from $45,000 to $57,000 per year. But a Broadway actresses salary looks more like $1,605 per week. This being because they don’t work all year round. The usual working hours for actors/actresses are hours a day, making that hours a week. However, when actors aren’t on set filming or rehearsing with the cast, they have to spend lots of there time rehearsing lines alone. Fun Fact: Actors Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig each received $40,000 per week to perform in "A Steady Rain" on Broadway in This figure, when combined with each actors' percent of the nightly box office, equaled a weekly salary in the $100,000 range.

MY JOB HAS A 37.4% CHANCE OF BECOMING AUTOMATED This job should not be automated because: actors need to show emotion in their performance and everyone knows that robots don’t have emotion/empathy people love seeing real live actors/actresses up on the stage because they love seeing stuff they can relate to (and they can’t really relate to robots)

ACTING WOULD BE GREAT FOR ME BECAUSE… I already have these skills for this career: outgoingness, motivation, confidence, passion, perseverance, positivity, and determination.

I AM NOT QUITE READY FOR THIS CAREER, BUT I WILL GET THERE! These are skills for the job I still need to learn: Impersonation skills, and self-security. This is how I will get those necessary skills: I will become more self secure by doing performances in front of friends. I feel that having your friends/family around, it will make me more secure in myself. As for impersonation skills, I just have to keep on working and really push myself. Something I could do is observe the people I’m trying to impersonate.

THIS IS WHAT APPEALS TO ME WITH THIS CAREER… The thing that appeals to me the most is the glamour of being an actress. Not the materialistic type of glamour like fame and fortune, but the glamour of simply acting. The rush you get of being on the stage or in front of the camera. The excitement one gets when being an actress is just so refreshing and fills them with positivity and enthusiasm.

THESE ARE SOME THINGS I FIND LESS APPEALING ABOUT THIS CAREER… So many famous actresses and actors inspire me greatly, but the one thing I find unappealing about this career is the fame. Not saying I would necessarily become famous, but if I ever would, I wouldn’t like it. I’ve heard of so many Hollywood actresses who because of fame, have been depressed. They let the pressure of society, and the mean, mean people out there, get to them. Though I look forward to my future in this career, I don’t want to turn into an actress that hates herself.

POTENTIAL OBSTACLES TO GETTING THIS CAREER The possible obstacles: rejection, competitors, people putting me down, injuries, or more. My plan to overcome them: When it comes to things like rejection, or negative people, the only thing I can do is work super hard to overcome those things, and prove everyone who puts me down, wrong. And as for injuries, I just have to be very careful with myself and be as healthy as I can be.

POTENTIAL OBSTACLES TO BEING SUCCESSFUL WITHIN THIS CAREER The possible obstacles: not putting myself out there, and/or rejection. My plan to overcome them: Again, I have to never take no for an answer and strive my best to keep trying harder after facing rejection. Also, in order to put myself out there, I have to get an agent and work as hard as I can to get auditions. Another thing that with help self-promote myself is living in a city where things happen. That’s one of many reasons I want to go to school in New York. Because things happen there.

THE TRAINING/EDUCATION REQUIRED FOR MY CAREER IS: There are no formal education or training requirements for becoming a professional actress. A lot of an actresses’ success depends on her ability and talent. However, it it’s a good idea to study a wide variety of subjects in high school and to get some post-secondary training such as drama, musical theatre, acting, ect.

I INTEND TO GO TO TISCH SCHOOL OF THE ARTS FOR THAT CAREER New York, United States of America Undergraduate in Drama, Undergraduate in Dance Drama- Bachelor of Fine Arts, Dance- BFA & MFA Length of Drama- 4 years, Dance- 4 years Tuition is $30, for one year

HERE IS WHERE I CAN GET THAT: Admission requirements: submit a common application, upload your materials, book an artistic review session. Required courses when in the program: Professional training, theatre studies- introductory, advanced theatre studies.

FINANCIAL PLAN I am going to pay for my program: working full time in summer 2017 and summer 2018 and getting a part time job in grade 11 and 12. saving any money I get for my birthday or Christmas get student loans and work part time through university collect whatever money my parents give me to help pay

HIGH SCHOOL COURSES Grade 11 courses: English 11, acting 11, musical theatre, history 11, One Act Fest, and choir. Grade 12 courses: English 12, acting 12, history 12, musical theatre, One Act Fest, and choir.

ACTRESSES ARE AWESOME!!! I am really excited to be an actress because of three things: I have always idolized Judy Garland, Julie Andrews, Barbara Streisand, Audrey Hepburn, and so many more phenomenal actresses. So I would be very excited to follow in their footsteps and I aspire to be like them. I love the people in show business because they are the same as me; positive, creative, outgoing, inspiring and over all great people to work with. I feel like being in the acting business would turn my live around into something positive. Lastly, I am excited to be an actress because I think it is really important. If you do it right, you can create an image that shows the change you hope to see in this world. And I want to help people change the world into something amazing.
