Evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of the SAPS National Crime Combating Initiatives (11)  Conducted field work to collect data to evaluate the impact and sustainability of SAPS crime combating programs in the normalisation phase.  Conducted field work to determine the extent of the implementation of APEX 18 project and developed a report. 11. Evaluation of the implementation of the SAPS Rural Safety Plan (15) Commissioned research on the implementation of the plan and a report indicating areas for development was done. »Policy and Research 12. Policing Policy Analysis (26) Conducted field work, analysed the National Instruction 1/2008 on Sector Policing and developed a report on identified gaps. Conducted field work to determine the policy gaps on the Rural Safety Strategy and developed a report on identified gaps. 13. Assessment of the implementation and impact of NCPS-related programmes on crime prevention (27) Conducted literature review, a critique of the NCPS and field work on the role and impact of SAPS in crime prevention. 14. Study of the Violent Nature of Crime in South Africa (28) The following areas were researched and a report submitted: a study on the circumstances of occurrence of murder in areas with a high rate of murder; a study on the nature and causes of sexual violence; an analysis of the socio-economic factors which contribute to violence and case studies on the perpetrators of violent crime. 15. An analysis of media reporting on crime (29) An in-depth analysis of Media Analysis of Crime Reporting was commissioned and a report on findings and recommendations on the review of the Departmental Communication Strategy was developed Research was commissioned on the Analysis of the Current Crime Statistics Releasing Policy and a report with recommendations that inform policy review was developed

No field work or stakeholder engagement was done to identify areas requiring review 21. Establish Strategic Policy and Research Partnerships (network) (30)  An envisaged information sharing workshop with researchers and institutions was jointly planned with CSVR and OSF to discuss the recommendations of the Violent Nature of Crime Report.  Subscriptions were made to –The Institute for Futures Research to obtain content on the micro, macro and meta Political, Environmental, Social, Technological, Legal and Geographical (PESTLEG) environment that informs issues of safety and security –ISS SA Crime Quarterly to obtain current information on the security front  Access to Sabinet online for research and policy publications did not require subscription. Access (access code and password) was obtained through SAPS  Subscription to the Centre for Development an Enterprise (CDE) on matters relating to internal and external migration, safety an security and government policy, did not bear costs
