The Reaction Quotient, “Q”
When do you use this? You use Keq to find the concentration of a reversible reaction at equilibrium. You use Q to find the concentration of a reversible.

Monday, October 19 th  Take out your homework and notes  Questions?  Reminder: Molar Volume lab due tomorrow

The Reaction Quotient  If we know current concentrations, how do we determine which direction the reaction will proceed?  Compare our current ratio (Q) to the desired ratio (K eq )

K vs Q  If Q < K  Too many reactants relative to products  Reaction will move towards products  If Q > K  Too many products relative to reactants  Reaction will move towards reactants  If Q = K  Reaction is at equilibrium

Homework  Molar Volume Lab report due tomorrow  Practice questions due tomorrow  Review questions due by Thursday
