Supporting Teacher Assessment - English

“This half-day meeting is part of a package available to purchase through our e-store. The package is designed to provide regular supported opportunities for teachers from different schools to work together, to support teacher assessment in maths in order to: Develop the quality of teacher assessment Improve the evidence base Increase the security of judgements” Share your teaching context with others on your table What are you hoping to get from these termly sessions? Aims of sessions

Explore criteria for each year group Share assessment methodologies Standardisation – evaluate evidence provided Prepare, share and review own evidence Reflect and decide next steps for Overview of session

Share and compare your criteria with others on your table Compare the criteria with National Curriculum’s Programmes of Study Year 2/6 - Compare with Interim Framework standards What are you assessing against?

What are the big ideas in your year group? Big ideas

What methodology are you using to assess? Reflect and outline Share Assessment methodology

Subject knowledge – understanding of expectations Child’s voice – what do the children actually say and do? Sampling – indicative evidence, quality not quantity Independence of choice and decision making Cross curricular evidence – application Picture building over time Standardisation: What does evidence look like? Does this sample demonstrate:

On your own draw together your evidence ready to share Share with (new) partner: review quality of evidence and explain the decisions you have made Draw your own conclusions about this child and the other children you have brought – what other evidence might you need? Feedback On-track child

Review all of the children you have brought with you and ask the following key questions: How confident would you feel if you were the teacher for the next year that they were ready to access age related expectations? Are gaps in attainment due to lack of opportunity or challenges in learning? What would be the two things you would identify for targeting for the children's next teacher? Feedback challenges about making summative judgements and possible next steps Making valid end of year judgements
