HA Electronics Progress December R. Larsen For the Team
December HA Progress2 Power Supplies HA development demonstration: –Current sharing 1+N done –Dual bulk in progress – supplies ordered –Dual controller in progress – MacNair will be ~40% time in 07
December HA Progress3 ATF2 Power Supplies B. Lam assigned engineer w/ Bellomo supervising –Procurement of major components in progress – took a month to get through purchasing –B. Lam off to Japan to coordinate installation preparations –M&S grew somewhat but generally are very tight on M&S in current budget
December HA Progress4 Kicker Status –Two proposals submitted, one to continue LLNL program (E. Cook) and one new DSRD snap recovery diode (A. Krasnykh & C. Burkhart) –Ed continues experimenting with faster mosfets, packaging, integration –Anatoly proposal is abandoned orphan on porch waiting for someone to pick up
December HA Progress5 Controls & Instrumentation Stds Due to budget restrictions 07 program limited to U of Illinois evaluation program (0.75 FTE) plus oversight and consulting from B. Downing (1/4 time) Generally good progress running systems with software that they installed –Demo of shelf manager operation, controller failover –Very limited system; need some additional modules –We proposed study of a VME adapter card so could get ATCA running experience with small DAQ implementations –Working on spec and will get company to build it (Downing, Kastner)
December HA Progress6 Controls Collaboration Had money & FTEs in 07 but has been stripped out with latest budget –Expect further cuts (somewhere) with CR –Will continue with weekly meetings involvement and no active project work –08-09 ART budget shows more than half of controls funds going to FNAL for test systems (Controls + LLRF)
December HA Progress7 Marx Progress continues slowly but steadily –Reached 70 kV late last week with 8 cards running –Greg fixing a trip problem in FPGA that “needs a 1 usec blanking pulse” –Hoping for a Christmas pony Vernier card designed, getting ready for review, then will be built (Burkhart) –Meanwhile Greg has another scheme to control droop using the standard cards alone which he wants to evaluate along with vernier.
December HA Progress8 Marx Diagnostic Processor Jeff’s processor card working at HV after hdwe floating pin fixed with pullup. –Display shows pulse width and delay settings each board and sum –Current and voltage diagnostics still to be implemented (need probes) –Seems like a very nice start –Chestnut et al to interface to EPICS high level controls
