How you can help your child to achieve their potential Mr Stuchberry – Head of Year 10

Attendance and Punctuality  This is a key area that has a greater impact on progress than you think!  Your child may only just fall below 90% but will have missed the learning in the classroom with the specialist teachers.  The more time missed will result in pupils failing to understand key concepts. There will be gaps in their learning.

Attendance and Punctuality With 90% attendance you would be absent for 19 days in a school year and would miss 95 lessons! Attendance % 5+ A* C 93.5 and above – and below26.7

Attendance and Punctuality  Try not to book holidays in term time  Encourage your child to return to school as soon as possible after an illness  Ensure any work missed through absence is copied up and that they ask for help if they don’t understand any part of that work  Ensure your child arrives on time for school  As Head of Year, I will monitor attendance closely with Mrs Heyes (pastoral attendance officer)  We highlight 4 weekly attendance and punctuality and record it in diaries  Achievement points are awarded on a weekly basis  Pupils with the best attendance records will attend the summer BBQ in July

How can you support your child with their learning?  Check and sign planners each week  Speak to subject teachers if you have a concern  Watch the calendar for important dates/deadlines  Look at your child’s books/files to see if work is being done or offer any support  Contact school if you have any concerns

What else is needed for your child to fulfil their potential?  The main answer here is hard work and determination  They are not on their own. They have a whole staff behind them  They have you to support them  Ensure they sleep and eat well. Late nights impact heavily on concentration the next day  Encourage them to ask for help

Finally…What we will do to ensure your child achieves their potential  As HOY I will support their pastoral needs and try to ensure they are happy at school  I will listen to their concerns and support them  I will challenge underperformance and find ways to engage pupils in achieving their targets  Myself, the Year 10 team and all staff in school will strive to keep your child safe, happy and on the path to success
