 It’s Not about “fixing” the bullies  Making bullying unacceptable  Includes staff, parents, and students 2

 What does it mean to show courage?  Types of courage?  How can the act of courage effect others?  What kinds of situations call for courage?  Where does courage come from?  Can someone be afraid & courageous at the same time?  What are some ways people show courage? 3

Definition of Bullying: A person is being bullied or victimized when they are repeatedly harmed, harassed, intimidated or excluded. It is one-sided and unfair 4

 Face-to-face  Examples: punching, kicking, any physical or verbal attack on someone  Behind the back  Examples: gossip & rumors  Cyberbullying  Examples: using technology to bully someone. Facebook, Instagram, etc. 5

Types of Bullying  Physical aggression – face to face  Social aggression – both face to face & behind the back  Verbal aggression – both  Face to face and behind the back  Intimidation – face to face  Cyber Bullying - online, using technology 6

How can you HELP the Victim?  Be supportive  It’s not their fault  Be compassionate  Be a good friend 7

 42% of kids have been bullied while online. 1 in 4 have had it happen more than once.  35% of kids have been threatened online. Nearly 1 in 5 have had it happen more than once.  21% of kids have received mean or threatening or other messages.  58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online. More than 4 out of 10 say it has happened more than once.  53% of kids admit having said something mean or hurtful to another person online. More than 1 in 3 have done it more than once.  58% have not told their parents or an adult about something mean or hurtful that happened to them online.
