A scientist once said that everything in the universe was made of the same thing. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. How many examples of matter can you find in this classroom? Matter is many things around you. The chair that you sit on, your pencil, and even you contain matter. Is air matter?

There are more than 100 basic kinds of matter, called elements. Elements cannot be broken down into smaller pieces. Examples of elements include gold, silver, oxygen, helium, and iron.

 Physical Properties: Physical properties are things that can be observed, described, or measured with tools such as rulers, thermometers, microscopes, scales, and balances. Mass Volume Weight Density Buoyancy Solubility Chemical Properties: Chemical properties explain how matter changes into something new. Rusting Burning Shape Size Texture Color Flexibility Odor Hardness

 Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass.  Volume is the amount of space an object takes up  Mass is the amount of matter in something  Elements are the basic building blocks of matter.  All objects made of matter have its own set of characteristics, or properties  Physical Properties: can be observed, described, or measured with tools such as rulers, thermometers, microscopes, scales and balances.
