Introduction Christmas is the remembrance of the birth of Christ. It is when Christian families get to together and give and receive gifts.

The four weeks of Advent In Scottish churches there is a Christmas Wreath with four candles on it three candles are white and one is red. The Three white candles represent the first three Sundays before Christmas and the red candle represents the last Sunday before Christmas

On the first of December children get advent calendars. Each day they open they get a bit of chocolate and on the 24 th the day before Christmas they get a bigger bit!

DECORATIONS In Scotland we put decorations up during advent. We put up a Christmas tree and decorate it with baubles and tinsel. At the top of the tree we put either an Angel, like the Angel telling Mary that she is going to have a baby, or a star, like the star in the sky leading the wise men to baby Jesus. Santa Claus On Christmas eve we leave out milk and cookies for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph as Santa is thought to be very fat but a very merry man. In Scotland the children do not leave their shoes outside for Santa Claus to put coal or small presents in them. Santa comes down your chimney and puts loads of presents under your Christmas tree. On Christmas eve we leave out milk and cookies for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph as Santa is thought to be very fat but a very merry man. Most people believe that flies through the air in a sleigh with reindeer pulling him. The most famous of all of his reindeer is the one and only Rudolph. Rudolph is not famous for saving somebody’s life or jumping off a building he is famous for his shiny red nose!

What Christmas looks like in Scotland On 24 th of Santa comes to leave presents and we open them on the 25 th.

On Christmas eve my family takes me to the cinema. We usually see a Christmas movie. Some other families take their children to church or to the pantomime. Pantomime is a traditional British Christmas theatre show.

On Christmas day we wake up very early and go and get our parents, so that we can go and open our presents, which are left by Santa under the Christmas tre.
