What happens in Year 6 -Last year at primary school, and is very much a transition year, in preparation for the move to secondary school. -SATs (week beginning 8 th May 2017) -PGL Residential trip (week beginning 15 th May 2017) -The musical extravaganza that is the Summer production! -Responsibilities around the school -Becoming more independent in their learning -So we have high expectations…

Expectations in Year 6 Being organised (belongings and work) Setting an example for the rest of the school ( correct uniform including black school shoes, no jewellery or make-up, sensible hair styles) Being independent and taking the initiative Growing sense of maturity

Transition to secondary school The transition is a process rather than an event Close links with Cambourne VC - a year long process of link lessons, visits, and induction - Science challenge, Intake Days etc. Our expectations are important as our pupils are consistently praised by their secondary schools for their mature, attitude, manners and sense of responsibility.

SATs Mornings of the week beginning 8 th May 2017 Children are tested in: - English (reading comprehension, writing : grammar, punctuation and spelling) - Maths (2 reasoning papers, a times tables test and an arithmetic paper) - Writing will be assessed throughout the year Children will be well prepared for their tests

Homework Homework books – A and B Monday to Monday – every week English, Maths and Spellings. Children are expected to use their spelling words in context. There may be cross-curricular activities as part of these tasks. Children have been told to talk to us by Thursday if they are having any problems. They have a ‘homework wall’ with homework help and extra homework should they lose it.

Year 6 Timetable Usually English and Maths each morning & Foundation subjects in the afternoons PE usually takes place in the afternoons and PE kits should be in school all week Throughout the year specialist coaches will come to school to teach the children in a variety of areas. Geography/ History, Art/Design Technology will alternate on a half termly basis (half termly curriculum letters will outline the units we will be studying). These subjects will be taught using creative, cross curricular approaches where possible

PGL Residential trip (15 th -19 th May) PGL Liddington in Wiltshire Activities : abseiling, archery, climbing, zip wire, trapeze and much more! Payment scheme – All these dates will be on the curriculum letters Look out for letters containing more details

Meetings this year Parent consultations (12 th and 20 th October) Sex and Relationships Education Evening (date to be confirmed – Spring term) PGL meeting (March 2017) Please check your weekly newsletter for further information. Bikeability – week beginning 7 th November

Please help us by: Ensuring all clothes are labelled clearly Checking that any medication held in school e.g. inhalers, epi-pens etc. are in date and clearly named All forms and reply slips are returned as promptly as possible Contacting the office if your contact details change Speaking to us if you have any concerns or enquiries. Informing us of any changes to their going home arrangements.

Thank you for coming this evening! We are looking forward to a fun and successful year with your children!
