The new curriculum the aim is to slim down the content of the curriculum in almost all subjects, though not in primary English, maths or science. There are changes to the content of all subjects in the national curriculum. In maths, children will be expected to learn more at an earlier age - for example to know their 12 times table by the age of nine History will take a more chronological approach than under the old curriculum In English, pupils will learn more Shakespeare and there will be more importance placed on spelling The new computing curriculum will require pupils to learn how to write code In science, there will be a shift towards hard facts and "scientific knowledge"

Levels and numbers are old news now. Assessment in school is now focussed on what the children can and can’t do. We can then support them in a number of ways to help them achieve what is expected of them and get the best they can from education. Turning children into numbers and figures tell us nothing about the child, and can demoralise them, so making sure they can learn and get help when needed is much more worthwhile. There may be times the children go out of class to get extra help with an adult. This could be because they are struggling, or because they can be extended further in their learning.

Year 3 follows on from Year 2. Your child will continue to follow the National Curriculum. There have been some changes mainly to the content that teachers have to teach. There continues to be 2 hours of PE. One outdoor and one indoor. An hour of French every other week. One hour of computing, music and RE. The rest of the timetable is taken up with English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Art and DT. We are following a more creative curriculum and the children will be taught through topics and themes. The aim is to make learning more meaningful, interesting and fun. It creates cross curricular links which gives the children opportunities to consolidate and extend their learning and understanding.

The Year 3 topics for this year are as follows:  Term1: Tremors  Term 2: Tribal Tales  Term 3: Flow  Term 4: Scrumdiddlyumptious  Term 5: Gods and Mortals  Term 6: Urban Pioneers

 Days Mr Williams – Thursday and Friday Miss Morgan – Monday and Thursday Mrs Kirk – Monday and Thursday Mrs Barge – Thursday and Friday  What to wear?  Getting changed back into school uniform

In line with our creative curriculum and in order to give the children more practical experiences we are planning a range of trips and visits as well as inviting visitors and speakers into school. There may be a cost involved. We would ask for your support in this area as whilst contributions are voluntary, we will not be able to run trips without the financial support from our families.

 Stone Age Day £14 Thursday 24 th November 2016  Library Trip No Charge TBC  Aiming for 2 others throughout the year

It will be given fortnightly. Children will have to continue reading daily, practising times tables, division facts or number bonds, learning spelling and carrying out spelling related activities. There will also be an additional topic related activity.
