Autumn Term 1 Topic Year 6 SOUTHFIELD PRIMARY Hola Mexico! Teacher Mrs Hogg Other Adults Mrs L Cooper HOW YOU CAN HELP CHILDREN Read, little and often everyday Meet your targets Complete your home learning Practice spellings and times tables Research your topic Parents Please listen to your child read, comment in their journal and return daily. Help with their home learning. Ask your child about their targets. Practice times tables and spellings Encourage your child to revise content covered so far in preparation for SATS. P.E: Is on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has the appropriate kit. Home Learning Is set on a Monday and will need to be handed in the following Monday. X tables and spellings will be set on a Monday and tested on the Friday. Please ensure you child reads each night, record this in their reading journal. Learning Websites

Art and Design As part of ‘Hola Mexico’ The children will be using a different range of media to create death masks and images based around ‘Los dias de las muertos’. There will be opportunities for a number of children to attend Hill House school and the Armthopr Academy to enhance their skills in art and design. Computing The children will be working collaboratively to design and make their own app for a tablet/smartphone. History Our topic is ‘Hola Mexico’. The children will explore some of the unique country, from its towering temples to its pulsing rhythms and fun-packed festivals. Tummy rumbling? Concoct a traditional fruit cocktail or delicious Mexican meal! Children will discover the mysterious world of the ancient Maya civilisation. Make their chocolate, learn their poetry, play their ballgame and follow all their rituals!
