VSL GROUP LEADERSHIP -Visionary -Brave, honest, patient -Good at conflict resolution -Emotional mature -Be able to guide The chairperson -Calls meetings -Ensures law regulations enforcement -Presents group report to general meeting TYPES OF LEADERSHIP IN VSL GROUPS OFFICIALS The secretary -Send out notices, agendas and minutes -Ensure meeting venue are ready -Handle group correspondance The treasurer -Keep and safeguard group monies -Record members contribution Several committees -Membership -Marketing -Vsl /business -Procurement -Etc

VSL GROUP LEADERSHIP -Conform minutes of previous meeting -Discuss and agree on activity plans -Identifies members needs and set goals -Ensures implementation of resolutions -Screen and admit new members -Delegate tasks to group members GENERAL MEETINGS LEADERSHIP AND VSL GROUPSFOLLOWERS

GROUP DEMOCRACY - All members have the right to exercise their democratic control -Democracy should be exercised within the group organs -Members can exercise their rights and replace the entire office or any executive member ASSIGNMENT In three VSL group discuss and campaign for elective post of chairperson Present two candidates and market them

COMMUNICATION IN VSL GROUPS Objectives 1. Understand the importance of effective communication in VSL group 2. Appreciate benefits eloquent leaders in VSL groups 3. Appreciate the varied forms of communication Communication is the exchange of information involving persons or instruments by use of different channels to achieve certain objectives

COMMUNICATION IN VSL GROUPS EFFECTIVE VSL GROUP MEETINGS 1. Planning and organization 2. Passing on information to members 3. Conflict resolution, displinary action 4. Education and training Means of communication 1.Individual communication: person to person, letters, phones 2.Group communication: meetings, demonstrations, field days, training forums 3.Mass communication: press reports TV, Radio

COMMUNICATION IN VSL GROUPS COOPERATION AND NETWORKING 1. The regular collaboration of VSL group to enhance its resources to achieve the VSL group objectives 2. To grow and remain sustainable VSL groups must network and cooperate COOPERATION AND NETWORKING 3. Can network with private and public entrees 4. Must network with Kenya Deaf Business Entrepreneur and Community Development Organization – a new Deaf Network Organization
