Creating Thriving Groups by Building Leadership and Mastering Your Group Role

Getting to Know Each Other Introduce yourself to someone next to you o What’s your name, and where are you from? o What leadership role are you in now in your RESULTS group or advocacy group you are part of? o What are you proud of having accomplished in that role? o What do you want to walk away with from this workshop?

Hopes for Today Describe critical roles in a grassroots advocacy group. Inspiring advocates about how taking on leadership help them become who they want to become. Confidently make request of other people to take on leadership roles in their group.

Why shared leadership?

Leadership Styles in Games Simon Says Captain May I (or Mother May I)

Leadership Styles in Games What was it like to be the leader? What was it like to be a participant? How would you describe the leadership style in each game? Which style is best for our work in ending poverty?

Our goals are different. Working toward end of poverty using advocacy, what are the critical roles that need to be filled. What are the critical roles in an advocacy group with this goal in your setting?

Cultivating Leaders What motivates you to volunteer with RESULTS?

Cultivating Leaders Why do people volunteer their time? What needs are they trying to meet for themselves?

Cultivating Leaders Needs: To make a difference Building relationships Learning or sharing skills Time

Cultivating Leaders How do we find out their specific needs? Individual planning sheet: What skills, talents, and passions can I bring to our group and RESULTS? A real breakthrough for me this year would be… I’d like to develop the following skills in 2016…

Let’s bring this home! What roles would you like to fill in your group? What roles might you offer which people in your groups that would help them meet their needs for volunteering? What goes into a good ask?
