Introduction of Nara Women’s University Maya Shimomura (Nara Women’s Univ.) 4 th Japan-Korea PHENIX Collaboration Univ. October 19 th 2015 MFT Hiroshima Univ.

First of all,,, Thanks for giving me a opportunity to have this talk here! 2015/Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX2 Nara women’s university(NWU) would like to accept new graduate students from abroad on physics major. What is NWU ? What can you do if you becomes a student of NWU ? NWU has international exchange MOU with 梨花大 (Ewha Women’s University). One of faculties has international exchange MOU with Seoul Univ. and we (faculty of science) also want it. NWU has double degree program. You may get Ph.D from your University in Korea and NWU in Japan at the same time with one thesis. NWU is willing to participate the RIKEN IPA program!

High energy group 2015/Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX7 I belong to High energy physics Lab group. ( It mainly works for KEK Belle and Belle II experiment. Proven group working e+e- collider since 1987 TRISTAN. 3 Staff, 7 Undergraduate, 4 Master students, some friendly deers Now officially became a member of RHIC-PHENIX since I became Assistant professor at NWU in Feb Prof. Hayashii Prof. Miyabayashi shimomura Dean of faculty of science Just joined ! New master students

High energy group Belle and Belle II – Prof. Hayashii, Prof. Miyabayashi and three master students – Very active! – Many Ph.D from the group. PHENIX (Heavy Ion physics) – Shimomura(me) and one master student so far. Just started! 2015/Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX8 Rare!! Experts for High energy nuclear physics and high energy particle physics in same group and collaborate well. You can chose either. Recent example of double degrees program NWU made MOU with Goettingen university(German) and accepted Ph.D student “Panzenbeck, Elisabeth” who wanted to do Belle analysis for her Ph.D thesis. She stayed at Goettingen for her first year of Ph.D, then came to Japan and spent rest of time at Nara and KEK. Prof. Miyabayashi was her supervisor at NWU. She got Ph.D from both NWU and Goettingen Univ. in March /Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX there are post doc from abroad, Japanese phD student and Elisabeth.

Future Plan (hope) 1.We’d love to collaborate with Universities in Korea, especially to make women’s network. (such as with Ewha Women’s University). 2.We’d like to make strong link between our NWU students and RIKEN IPA students and would like them to work together. 3.I want to get funding and more students for heavy ion. 4.We are considering to join sPHENIX and/or ALICE projects. * (ALICE is not part of IPA programs. ) 2015/Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX10 Thank you for let me joining to this meeting today! Students are very welcome to Join to NWU group! You will have a good opportunity to touch both high energy particle physics (Belle/Belle II) and heavy ion physics (PHENIX/ALICE)!

Good place to work for women NWU has many supports for working women. – Some funding for research expense such as going to international conference, having English correction for papers etc. – You can have a mentor if you are young and want to have it. – You can have supporters who work like your TA and secretary. 2015/Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX11 I have two kids ( 1 and 3 year old ) and no husband during weekdays since he works at RIKEN. Everyday is tough but NWU support actually a lot! All restroom have a diaper changing table. There are breast feeding rooms also. Very good child play room is in NWU. Own family support system. You can have relatively cheap but well-trained babysitters. Childcare for meeting/conference QM15 childcare was provided actually using this system and supported all costs by NWU.

Who Am I ? My PhD thesis was “Systematic study of charged hadron v2 at RHIC-PHENIX” at University of Tsukuba. 2015/Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX13 Phys. Rev. C 92, a near-universal scaling of v 2 / （ n q ･ ε ･ N part 1/3 ) vs. KE T /n q Also, built and installed Aerogel counter and maintained TOF and Aerogel during runs.

Who am I ? I was a post-doc at University of Tsukuba and was a member of ALICE from 2007 to I was a post-doc in Iowa State University for RHIC- PHENIX in – VTX( silicon vertex detector) alignment on software Conversion veto – Heavy flavor analysis I was an assistant professor at KEK for SuperKEKB in Since Feb 2014 I have been an assistant professor in Nara Women’s University. 2015/Oct/19Maya Shimomura / Japan-Korea PHENIX14
