The “Teetotaler” will never be addicted to much wine or be in the process of becoming drunk.

Abstain From Fleshly Lusts… …which war against the soul (I Pet. 2:11)

Abstain From Fleshly Lusts… …which war against the soul (I Pet. 2:11) How do you do that in the name of the Lord? – Do not make provision to fulfill the lusts thereof (Rom. 13:13-14). – Drinking alcohol is making a strong provision leading to the lusts of the flesh being satisfied.

Is the Christian being spoken evil of because they participated in the drinking parties without getting drunk? They are spoken evil of because they totally abstained. “There are those teetotalers.” In addition to the clear condemnation of social drinking parties of the day, no one could attend and drink in these gatherings in the name of the Lord.

Conclusion… What ever you do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord. Timothy was living the life of a Christian abstaining from wine (I Tim.5:23) He was abstaining from wine all together because: He did not want to be given to, or become addicted to wine. He did not want to make provision through drink that would lessen his inhibitions in his war against fleshly lusts. He wanted to have a sober mind that always is thinking clearly upon the revealed Truth of God.
