Before school starts... Label desks, cubbies, door with student names Label supply bins Organize classroom library Establish meeting area Have items ready for first week Ask colleagues about schoolwide procedures

Teaching Routines and Procedures Explain and model procedure Rehearse and practice routine with students Reinforce routine or procedure until it becomes a habit

Day 1 Procedures to Teach and Practice Arrival and unpacking Attention getters/quiet sign Using the restroom Coming to the meeting area Lining up Walking in the hallway Cafeteria and Recess Procedures Packing up and dismissal

Week 1 Establish code of cooperation - everyone signs Continue teaching and practicing school wide procedures: hallway, restroom, cafeteria, dismissal Classroom jobs to build responsibility Transitions Turning in classwork and homework Daily communication folder, agenda, binder, etc. Partnerships Cleaning up and using supplies Classroom library
