Presentation transcript:

 Vestibule › is the space between teeth and inner lining of cheeks and lip › Labial and Buccal  Mucobuccal fold › the base of the vestibule, where the buccal mucosa meets the alveolar mucosa

 Mucogingival junction › distinct line of color change where the alveolar membrane meets with attached gingiva

 Linea alba › a white raised ridge that extends horizontally at the level where the maxillary and mandibular teeth come together

 Frenum › labial, buccal, lingual › a narrow band of tissue that connects two structures  Uvula › marks the end of the soft palate › it is pear shaped hanging projection of tissue

Uvula

 Vermilion border › darkest part of the skin of the lips › outlines the lips  Vermilion zone › skin of the lips or labia  Labial commissure › where upper and lower lip joins

 Palatal rugae › raised folds of mucosa that run laterally from the incisive papilla  Palatine raphe › runs posterior from the incisive papilla › covers median palatine suture  Incisive papilla › a pear-shaped pad of tissue that covers incisive foramen  Soft palate › movable posterior third of the palate, no bony support › Gag reflex area

 Outer canthus of the eye › Fold of tissue at the outer corner of the eyelids  Inner canthus of the eye › Fold of tissue at the inner corner of the eyelids  Ala of the nose › Wing-like tip on the outer side of each nostril  Philtrum › Rectangular area running inside vertical grooves under the nose to the midline of the upper lip  Tragus › Cartilage projection anterior to external opening of the ear  Nasion › Midpoint between the eyes just below the eyebrows  Symphysis › Tip of chin  Tip of nose
