Promoting Literacy at Warwick Bridge School

 Phonics Bug and Bug Club are a pair of resources provided by Pearson Publishers.  They have been shown to raise attainment in reading.  Can be used in the classroom and at home.

 Used to teach reading at WBS in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 where appropriate.  Based on the Letters and Sounds programme for teaching synthetic phonics.  Fun and interactive.  Resources  Phonics Bug Whole Class  Rec  Unit 2 - d

 Phonics Bug progresses seamlessly into Bug Club as children’s reading develops.  It’s used in two main ways: as a classroom- based teaching tool and to facilitate reading for pleasure at home.

 We subscribe to Bug Club online because it means we can access Pearson’s huge catalogue of texts electronically.  In the classroom, children log on using the school tablets during guided reading lessons.  Example child: Hazel Nutt (Y4/5, hazenutt).

 Teachers will set up a range of books for your child to access when they log in at home.  The evidence tells us that when reading for pleasure, children should access texts at an easier level.

  User name: first four and first four  Password  School code: xrch

 Keep your computer up to date:  Javascript  AJAX  Flash Player  Allow Popups

 There is still a place for hard-copy books!  Screen time concerns.  In school, we use digital content in the form of Bug Club and hard-copy texts as part of the Accelerated Reader programme…
