Food and Fun Summer School 2016

 Students from Cardiff University attended in order to carry out research to explore the children’s experiences and views of the Summer School.  They were interested in what children do, what foods they eat and what friends they see in the holidays when the school isn’t open.  Parents and guardians were encouraged to take part in the research by completing a short questionnaire and providing the opportunity for a group discussion to explore their views about the Summer School.  Children were given activity monitors in order to record movement so that their activity levels could be measured.

Pupils learnt the importance of nutrition in their diet. They created healthy tasty meals and were encouraged to continue making these at home.

Pupils used fresh fruits donated from local supermarkets to prepare their own smoothies using the “Smoothie Bike”

Prizes were given out to the most skilful team. Lots of fun was had and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed it.

Pupils took part in active team games and understood how important sport and exercise is.

Anne Jones A.M. called in to speak with the pupils to ask their thoughts on the value of the Summer School.

Pupils were involved in learning “Street Dance Tricks” and “Hip Hop”.

Pupils participated in an active workshop which involved designing and creating cards.

Pupils learnt the skills of cake decoration.

Pupils had a range of materials which they could use to create books and collages.

The pupils had an opportunity to learn circus skill such as juggling, plate spinning and large bubble making.

Rewards were given to all pupils. Many prizes had been donated from local businesses; these included swim and gym passes, wrist bands for the fun fair, bowling and many more.
