Psalm 33
Sing for joy in the Lord, O you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright. 2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings. 3 Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. 4 For the word of the Lord is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. 9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. 10 The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. 13 The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; 14 From His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the earth, 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. 13 The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; 14 From His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the earth,
15 He who fashions the hearts of them all, He who understands all their works. 16 The king is not saved by a mighty army; A warrior is not delivered by great strength. 17 A horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength. 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, 15 He who fashions the hearts of them all, He who understands all their works. 16 The king is not saved by a mighty army; A warrior is not delivered by great strength. 17 A horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength. 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
19 To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. 22 Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times We do not need a back-up plan for faith in God.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Psalm 33 is a psalm of praise to “the ruler of the world as being the defender of His people.” (Keil and Delitzsch)
Real Hope in Hopeless Times To be God’s people in troubled times:
Real Hope in Hopeless Times 1) We must praise God for the integrity of His word and work (1–5).
Real Hope in Hopeless Times We are citizens of a better nation with a better anthem. (see Rev. 5:12).
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Both the Word and work of God are absolutely reliable because they come from the absolutely reliable God.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times 2) We must understand that God frustrates the nations to fulfill His plan for His nation (6–12).
Real Hope in Hopeless Times We should vote our Christian conscience on November 8, but we must remember Who is in control.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times God has the long view, the eternal perspective on everything.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times If God’s plan for winning His nation does not include making America great again, will we praise Him? If our country never moves forward together, we will serve Him?
Real Hope in Hopeless Times We shouldn’t be surprised by frustrating times.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Our ultimate hope is not in where we live but in Whose we are.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times 3) We must not trust in false saviors (13–17).
Some False Saviors a candidate a candidate the Supreme Court the Supreme Court a strong economy a strong economy Jobs Jobs Education Education
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Heaven is not a palace in which God remains idle... but a royal court, from which He exercises His government over all parts of the world” (J. Calvin).
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Even when we “lose” an election, God is still winning.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Politics is about who will hold power, but all are powerless to thwart God’s plan.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Neither Hillary Clinton nor our country will be saved by her political pedigree. Neither Donald Trump nor our country will be saved by his business prowess.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Blessed are you, O Israel; Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord” (Deut 33:29a).
Real Hope in Hopeless Times 4) We must hope in God alone.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings (Psalm 17:8).
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Our hope should be as evident to others as God is faithful to us.
Real Hope in Hopeless Times Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you. (1 Pet 3:15)
Real Hope in Hopeless Times “While this political season matters immensely, the church does not ultimately depend on what happens in Washington…
Real Hope in Hopeless Times The hope of the church, whether in the 1st c. or the 21st, is not found in political decisions but in the power of Christ through His people….Whomever becomes our president in January, one thing is certain: Jesus will be seated on the throne.” – J.D. Greear

My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly trust in Jesus' Name My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly trust in Jesus' Name
