Assessment A

Reading  Your child will be read with twice a week with either their teacher or TA as a part of guided reading. Guided reading records are kept in a separate reading folder which remains in school.  Reading books are changed every Monday and Thursday. If you have read with you child at home please record it in their yellow reading diary to ensure that their book is changed. Books and reading diaries must be in your child's book bag everyday.  Don’t worry if your child occasionally gets the same book that they’ve had in Year 1. This is to reinforce their reading skills. A

Home Learning  Home learning comes home near the beginning of each new half term.  There is a variety of activities that the children can choose from (1-2 tasks per week) which covers a range of learning.  It may be that the task doesn’t require your child to record anything that week so don’t worry if there isn’t anything in their book.  We will collect home learning books in on the last Monday of each half term so that the children can share their favourite piece.  Book can stay at home until then.  Please refer to the new policy on the website. G

Lunchtimes  We are a healthy and nut free school. Please take this in to consideration when making your child’s pack lunch. Water  Children need to bring a water bottle with fresh water into school everyday. We have water fountains around the school for the children to use. A

PPA  PPA is planning, preparation and assessment time for the teacher.  During PPA, children will take part in two terms of science and one term of enrichment. The enrichment activities will be cooking, art and team building games.  Year 2’s PPA will be on a Wednesday afternoon. J

PE and Swimming  Year 2 children have PE on a Friday.  We will send home PE kits to be washed at the end of each half term.  Swimming is on Tuesday and is part of the national curriculum.  All clothing and shoes, including swimming kits must be labelled with your child’s name and class. Even underwear! A

Building Learning Power We are a BLP school from Nursery through to Year 6. BLP is a long-term project which aims to encourage children’s attitudes for life- long learning. These attitudes are becoming embedded within the whole ethos of the school, equipping the children with strategies to cope with the challenges of life and learning (for example, resilience, working in a team, perseverance etc).
