Christmas in Japan begins on December 25. On Christmas Eve many people buy different decorations and presents.

The Japanese build Kadomatsu in front of their houses. Kadomatsu is bamboo and pine branches, red berries and tangerines.

The Japanese put branches decorated with rice balls – motibana in the houses. After the holidays motibana is eaten, and by tradition, each member of the family eats the rice balls as many as he or she is years old this year.

On Christmas the Japanese decorate the streets of cities and towns.

They love the illumination.

And they are ready to walk in the streets all day and enjoy the beauty.

The traditional Japanese food is moti. These are round balls or cakes made of rice. Another symbol of Christmas in Japan is a chicken. On New Year, the Japanese eat with special new year's sticks. These sticks are used only once a year.

At night Santa-San comes into the house through the window. He puts the presents on the children’s beds.
