11 th grade graduation project Christopher Slawson

Multimedia Artist

Nature of work Create graphics and animation using computer programs and illustration. Work with a team of animators and artists to create a movie, game, or visual effect. Research upcoming projects to help create a realistic design or animation. Develop storyboards that map out key scenes in the animation. Edit animation and effects based on feedback from directors, head animators, game designers, or clients.

Education and Training Employers don’t look for a degree but they look for people with a good portfolio and strong technical skills. Many have a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, computer graphics and other fields similar to those. Some employers have people work on films. Get hands on experience using the software. Some employers get hire people on a probationary period to see if they have the skills to be hired.

Other qualifications Artistic talent to be able to work with lighting and texture on the computer or paper. Computer skills since most multimedia is done using computers and computer codes. Creativity to be able to make original ideas to come to life. People skills since multimedia artists work as a team and need to be able to respond well to criticism and feedback. Physical stamina since most projects take an extended period of time and to keep up with long hours and challenging work.

Job outlook Employment will grow by eight percent from 2010 to Will be slowed by animators being sent overseas. Consumers will demand more realistic graphics in videogames and movies which will raise the demand for animators. Smartphones and other technological advances will open more jobs. There will be competition for people entering the field because many people are interested in the occupation.

Potential earnings The income median is $58,510. Motion picture and video industries: $66,190 Software publishers:65,290 Computer systems design and related services: 56,000 Advertising, public relations, and related services: 55,890
