Overview Definition and Overview of Ethics Trust and Total Quality Values and Total Quality Integrity and Total Quality Responsibility and Total Quality Handling Ethical Dilemmas Corporate Social Responsibility Defined

Ethics is doing the right thing within a moral framework. In other words, it is the practical application of morality.

Survey results…

-Ethics is a collection of values and behaviors which people feel are moral. -In other words, ―ethics is the name we give to our values or good behavior. -Positive work ethic is the collection of all the values and actions that people feel are appropriate in the work place.

Trust and Total Quality TQ cannot be successfully implemented in an organization that fails to subscribe to high standards of ethical behavior. Elements of Trust in TQ: -communication- interpersonal relations -conflict management -problem solving -teamwork-customer focus -employee involvement & empowerment

Values and Total Quality An organization will not produce a quality product or provide quality service unless the organization values quality.

Integrity and Total Quality Integrity combines honesty and dependability. In a total quality setting honesty is fundamental but integrity is much more than that.

Responsibility and Total Quality In a total quality setting, people are responsible for their actions and accountable for their performance. Accepting responsibility builds trust, integrity, and all the other elements of ethics that are important in a TQ environment.

Workplace Ethics Activity: Making Informed Ethical Decisions Divide into five groups. Each group of students will read and discuss one of the scenarios. Then, students will follow the steps for making ethical decisions. Each group should elect a feasible alternative and be prepared to discuss their reasoning for selecting that alternative with the class. Other groups should challenge the decision and give appropriate feedback.
