What types of people do I respect?  Police  Firefighters  Doctors  Parents  Friends  Teachers  Coaches  Etc…….

Characteristics of a respected person:  Honest  Trustworthy  Open communication  Good self esteem  Responsible for self  Dependable  Flexible  Caring  Patient  Good listener  Not judgmental  Etc………..

Destructive characteristics in a relationship:  Abusive  Bully  Desire to control  Dishonest  Jealous  Impatient  Over dependant  Selfish  Poor self-esteem  Angry  Gossip  Violent  Etc……………..

Role Models and Heroes  hero  noun, plural he·roes; a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.noble  a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal: He was a local hero when he saved the drowning child.model  Classical Mythology. a. a being of godlike prowess and beneficence who often came to be honored as a divinity.  role model n. A person who serves as a model in a particular behavioral or social role for another person to emulate.  a person regarded by others, especially younger people, as a good example to follow

Respect Letter Pick a person who has had a direct positive influence on your life to write a letter to.  Introduction: Minimum 4 sentences tell why you are writing them a letter  Body: Minimum 7 sentences Specific examples of how they have influenced you in a positive way.(specific characteristic they have that you respect)  Closure: Minimum 4 sentences Thank them for what they have done for you.

“I” Statements:  “I” Statements - are an expression of your feelings that does not blame or judge the other person ( I want…, I feel…, etc.)  Example : Your friend is playing his music very loud when you are trying to study  “I” Statement : I feel very frustrated because it is hard for me to concentrate on my studying with the music so loud.

Stating My Feelings While Respecting Others Choose five situations from the list below and write your response in a positive way, so that you state your feeling with out attacking the other person. (use an “I” statement)  A friend makes you the butt of a joke.  Your mother forgets to pick you up after soccer practice.  Your neighbor falsely accuses you of knocking over his garbage.  Your sister accidentally deletes your report from the computer.  Your brother embarrasses you in front of his friends.  A friend is an hour late and you miss the movie.  Your best friend reveals a secret you told in confidence.  Your brother wears your perfectly good, but old, shirt to paint his room.  Your grandmother calls you a “baby” name at your birthday party.  The bus driver embarrasses you in front of everybody.
