Global 2.4GHz ISM band (2.402 – 2.480; 79 channels) Short range wireless communication (PDA, Cellular phones…) distance between 10m – 100m, depends on output power and the Bluetooth version. FHSS – Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (1600 hops/sec) Master – Slave architecture (ver 1.1) Logical Channels - Asynchronous (data). - Synchronous, connection oriented (voice). Ad-hoc Network Based on Bluetooth Infrastructure Bluetooth Technology

Ad-hoc Network Based on Bluetooth Infrastructure Bluetooth Protocol Stack

Ad-hoc Network Based on Bluetooth Infrastructure Piconet / Scatternet Piconet One unit acts as Master and up to 7 units acts as slaves. The Master controlles channel access. Scatternet Multiple Piconets with overlapping coverage areas. Each Piconet can only have a single Master, and has its own frequency hopping pattern.

Ad-hoc Network Based on Bluetooth Infrastructure INQUIRYPAGECONNECTION Connection Establishment Inquiry state – a device learns about the identity of other devices in its vicinity. Theses other devices must be in the inquiry scan state to listen for and respond to it. Page state – a device explicitly invites another device to join the piconet whose master is the inviting device. The other device must be in the page scan state to listen for and respond to the pages.

Ad-hoc Network Based on Bluetooth Infrastructure A Purpose: Looking for Unknown Devices Responses include: Device Address Class of Device Inqury Process

Ad-hoc Network Based on Bluetooth Infrastructure D C B slave B master A slave C slave D Purpose: Establish Connection Done for each device independently Paging device becomes master Paging Process

Ad-hoc Network Based on Bluetooth Infrastructure The Project goal is to connect 2 end devices over a Bluetooth network, while the end points act as a perfect substitute to RS-232 cable (Wireless cable replacement). Project Goals The Bluetooth devices are controlled by a microcontroller Scientific, Medical or Industrial Equipment BlueCore 2 RS232 Cable Replacment BlueCore 2 RS232 Cable Replacment Computer DCE Connect to DCE DTE Connect to DTE RS-232 Bluetooth Network
