Drama and Theatre Studies Induction 28 th June 2016

Outline of the course Practitioners in practice (Performing/Design) 120 marks Non-exam assessment Learners will research and practically explore two practitioners and the work of others. They will create, devise and perform or design for a devised original theatre performance 40% Exploring and performing texts (Performing/Design) 60 marks Non-exam assessment (Visiting examination) Learners will explore one performance text and perform in or design for a live theatre performance 20% Analysing performance 60 marks 2 hours 15 minutes Written paper Learners will explore practically two performance texts on a chosen theme Learners will analyse and evaluate a live theatre performance 20% Deconstructing texts for performance 60 marks 1 hour 45 minutes Written paper Learners will interpret and explore practically a performance text considering how to create, develop and direct a performance for an audience 20%

Bridging work Practitioner research Choose one of the practitioners listed below and complete detailed research on them and their work. Use the hand-out provided to ensure that you cover all areas. Bertolt Brecht Stanislavski Artaud Steven Berkoff

Taster activity Response to a stimulus. In pairs look at the image you have been given. Mind map your ideas for a devised performance in response to this. Consider: the storyline you want to communicate, how/where will you stage it, what style will it be performed in? Each pair will present their idea.

Final Tips DO NOT SEE THIS A “SOFT” OPTION!! The course is just as demanding as any other A- Level. Be prepared to commit to additional rehearsals for practical exams. Be accepting that the theory elements of the course are just as important as the practical.
