KATIE Introduction: Welcome to our presentation. We are going to tell you what it is like to be British. I am Katie, this is Georgia, Ellie, Kerry and Amber. I will now pass you over to Georgia who will tell you about hobbies.

GEORGIA Hobbies: Hobbies are a favourite subject or interesting activity you may do in your spare time. In the U.K. There are different types of things that people enjoy doing in their spare time, such as sport activities, arts and crafts, collecting things and more. If you want to become better at your hobby or make new friends who share the same hobby as you, you can join a club in your local area. The most popular hobbies that people enjoy doing in the U.K. Today are reading and watching TV, and the least favourite hobbies are woodwork and camping. I will now pass you over to Ellie who will tell you about lifestyles and culture in Britain.

ELLIE British life and culture: Britain is the birthplace of Newton, Darwin, Shakespeare and the Beatles. It is the home of the world’s largest foreign exchange market, the world’s richest football club, Manchester United, the inventor of the hovercraft and JK Rowling, the author of the “Harry Potter” books. From Scotland to Cornwall, Britain is full of customs and traditions. A lot of them have very long histories. Some of them are funny and some are strange, but they are all interesting and are all part of the British way of life. Religion: The main religion in Britain is Christianity. Most Christians belong to the Church of England or the Church of Scotland. These are Protestant Churches. There are also many Roman Catholics. We also have other religions including Jewish and Muslim. Languages: The main language spoken in Britain is English, although several other languages are spoken too. Royalty: In Britain we have a Royal family. On the throne at the moment we have Queen Elizabeth II. Although the Queen is no longer responsible for governing the country, she carries out a great many important tasks on behalf of our nation. I will now pass you over to Kerry who will tell you about food.

KERRY British foods: I like being British because the food is really nice! British food has traditionally been based on beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish, generally served with potatoes and one other vegetable. The most common and typical foods eaten in Britain include sandwiches, fish and chips, pies like the Cornish pasty, trifle and roast dinners. Some of our main dishes have strange names like ‘bubble and squeak’ and ‘toad-in-the-hole’. The staple foods of Britain are meat, fish, potatoes, flour, butter and eggs. Many of our dishes are based on these foods. I will now pass you on to Amber who will tell you about clothes.

AMBER Fashion: As the U.K. Is very much a western society, we wear very much the same as any other western society, ranging from jeans and tee-shirts (whether designer or not) to full business suits. Special clothes for the climate include heavy overcoats or anoraks for cold wintry weather, to raincoats and umbrellas for wet weather. Materials are used to cover every type and colour of fabric available. As Britain is a multi-cultural society, in certain areas you will find many stores with colourful silk available for making Sari’s and other ethnic clothes. Footwear: Footwear can range from the likes of Nike and Addidas trainers to leather brogues for men, and from trainers to highly fashionable boots and shoes with heels for women. Clothes worn by children: When they are relaxing at home or out playing with friends, children in Britain wear comfortable clothes like t-shirts, jeans and sportswear. The right clothes are very important to teenagers, and many love to shop for the latest fashions. At school: Most children wear a school uniform when they are at school. In some schools children must wear blazers and ties, like ours. In other schools the uniform is more casual. We will now tell you why we are proud to be British!

Ending: We are proud to be British because Britain is famous for its history and there is also a good variety of food, hobbies, clothes and religions, and we have the privilege of going to school.
