Problems of City Life The importance of nature in human life

Plan Introduction Body: 1. Crucial problems of living in the city ; 2. Solutions to overcome them; Conclusion

Introduction Living in a city provides city dwellers with a lot of opportunities such as great job offers, convenient houses, user-friendly technology and various ways of transportation. However, these amazing living conditions frequently conceal a string of drawbacks as weak immune system or mental illness.

Crucial problems Anxiety and depression Blindness Obesity Type 2 diabetes Cancer Weak immune system

Anxiety and depression In the new study, Professor Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg of the University of Heidelberg in Germany scanned the brains of more than 50 healthy volunteers, who lived in a range of locations from rural areas to large cities, while they were engaged in difficult mental arithmetic tasks. The experiments were designed to make the groups of volunteers feel anxious about their performance.Professor Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg of the University of Heidelberg

The results, published in Nature, showed that the amygdala of participants who currently live in cities was over-active during stressful situations. "We know what the amygdala does; it's the danger- sensor of the brain and is therefore linked to anxiety and depression," said Meyer-Lindenberg.published in Nature

Blindness Only 20 per cent of youngsters play in the streets, therefore, lack of sunlight causes high myopia (severe short-sightedness). Half of sufferers become blind by middle- age.

Obesity According to the study conducted by Harvard School of Public Health, the main causes of obesity are consuming too much food, unhealthy diets, inactive lifestyle, not enough sleep and toxic environment.

Type 2 diabetes The university’s professor of environmental health science, Dr Qinghua Sun, has observed that xenoestrogens (air pollutants) can lead to the development of Type 2 diabetes. ‘These fine chemical particles directly cause inflammation and changes in fat cells, both of which increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

Air pollution in cities

Cancer Long-term health effects can include chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to the brain, nerves, liver, or kidneys. Continual exposure to air pollution affects the lungs of growing children and may aggravate or complicate medical conditions in the elderly. lung cancer

Weak immune system Recent research has indicated that city- dwelling mothers can even pass over- sensitive allergic reactions to their babies in the womb. A study in the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that mothers who live amid farmyard microbes give birth to allergy-resistant offspring. According to the hygiene hypothesis, because city children don't play in the mud, they are more likely to develop asthma and allergies

Solutions 20-minute walk in the open air Visit the countryside each week Build parks Be more active Consume healthy food Let the children spend more hours outdoors

Consume healthy food walk in the open air Be more active spend more hours outdoors

Conclusion The importance of nature has always been proclaimed by many scientists. In spite of the technology advancements, none of the modern technologies can replace the curing effect of nature on human beings. Thus, the most optimal and comfortable solution for city dwellers is to spend their free time in the nature.

Thank you for attention!
