 Get a diploma from an accredited nursing program. These vocational nursing programs vary in length, depending on which institution you choose. After graduation you would be eligible to take the NCLEX for licensure.  Complete an associate's degree in nursing (ASN). These programs also vary in length and usually take two to three years to complete. After graduation you would be eligible to take the NCLEX for licensure. Many students transition to BSN programs after having completed an ASN.  Obtain a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN). Most programs take about four years to complete, and cost does vary depending on the institution you choose. A bachelor's program typically include more training in the social sciences, and they may include courses in sociology, communications, leadership, and critical thinking.  The relationship between the numbers of nurses who have a basic education versus an advanced or graduate degree has been increasing over the years……..  Nurses were mainly in hospital-run schools  The relationship was relatively simple in terms of mutual benefits between education and services rendered.  Why has it changed?  Nurses have moved into institutions of higher education  The relationship now between education and service is…..education equals the level of service that is to be provided  Clarke, Sean P. PhD, RN, FAAN. Nursing Administration Quarterly. Practice-Academia Collaboration in Nursing: Contexts and Future Directions. 37(3):184–193, July/September

 Right now about 45.4% of RN’s have only an ADN in nursing, 34.2% have a BSN, & 0.5% MSN  Will it continue to change?  Complexity of the work and increasing pace health care settings  Zerwekh, J and Garneau, A.Z.
