You know a person has good Mental and Emotional Health when they: see themselves and life in positive ways, face challenges with confidence, accept that things won’t always go their way, can motivate themselves to achieve goals, understand and cope with feelings, focus on strengths, accept constructive criticism, learn from mistakes, healthy sense of humor, and they bounce back from disappointments

Personality – unique combination of feelings, thoughts, and behavior that makes you different than anyone else. 1.Your personality helps determines how you react to problems, new situations, and other events. 2.How would to feel about moving to a new school? 3.Different people react in different ways to the same situation.

Self-Concept – is the view you have of yourself – how you see yourself as a unique person. 1.At the top of your paper (pg 6 of the packet) write down three words that best describe you. 2.Did you focus on your strengths or positive qualities? 3.People who recognize their strengths and strong qualities generally have a positive self-concept. 4.What happens if a person only focuses on their limitations or faults?

1.Self Esteem – the way you feel about yourself and how you value yourself. 2.Self-Esteem is closely related to self-concept. Often a negative self-concept leads to low self-esteem. 3.For example, if you aren’t chosen for the basketball team after practicing for months, you might look upon yourself as a failure, even though you excel in other activities. This unrealistic picture of yourself could negatively affect your self-esteem. 4.What can affect a person’s self esteem?
