The growing population of youth demand change; out with the old and in with the new. The use of computer technology in healthcare is gradually becoming a common phenomenon. As we evolve from one way of giving care to another, quality care is the main focus.

Telehealth is the use of communication tools e.g. Computers to transfer health information from one location to another. Hebda & Czar, (2009).

The Telehealth process follows rules and regulation of The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. (HIPAA).

The HIPAA Act has rules as to how your electronic records are kept secure. The HIPAA Act ensures that your records are seen only by the necessary healthcare providers. You can also view your records.

Your visit would be as a normal visit, except the doctor will be speaking to you from a computer screen.

It is convenient and easy as the specialist doctor can be contacted via internet.

Telehealth improves patient care as a physician can contact the specialist, if necessary, without leaving the office and you would be seen by the specialist immediately.

This will reduce your travel expenses and time spent at a doctor’s appointment. Reduces stress.

Telehealth is suitable and safe for: Persons in remote areas Persons with long term illnesses Persons at home with telecommunication equipment.

Personal Computers This is simply your desktop and it can be connected to other computers via the internet.

Videophones and Telephones

Videoconferencing This a tool used in which the doctor can communicate with you, despite the distant

Store and Forward Systems This system encourages the transfer of digital images and data from location to location.

Information and Communication Requirements. Information Communication and Technology basically integrate information and telecommunication technology.

The Requirements include: Accessibility Effectiveness Safety

The estimate for incorporating computer technology in telehealth may vary based on the type of application chosen.

As a nurse giving care ensuring and protecting your health and information is important. There are certain legal and ethical condition to consider. The first is privacy basically ensuring that your information is secured from misuse. Another condition to consider is Confidentiality which protects your information with the use of consent forms or e-consent and/or a written permission

With telehealth a certain of care is required, there are regulations that ensures your protection with regards to your medical records. The privacy rule ensures that your information is kept secure at the same time with the focus being optimum level of care. Your information, that is your health records would be disclosed without your knowledge and permission

The security aspect with regards to telehealth offers certain standards that safeguard the privacy of your information. Only the necessary health givers would be allowed access to your health records.

Information Technology is everywhere, even though same is not implemented in all public health facilities, we believe that this technology would have a positive effect on the delivery of health care. With the use of telehealth, care would be easily accessed and convenient making life easier.
