How Long, O Lord? (Waiting for God to answer our prayers.) In our reading today the prophet Habakkuk gives voice to all those who are struggling with injustice and unanswered prayers. Although the prophet has prayed long and often, his prayers for justice have gone unanswered. And so the prophet cries out to God saying, "How long?" Many of us understand exactly what the prophet has experienced.

We have experienced the same kind of longing for God's answer. We have prayed long and often and God has made us wait. We have asked for God's justice, but it has not come. And we wonder, "How long," will God make us wait? When we wrestle with injustice and unanswered prayer, we can even be tempted to doubt God. Maybe He's too busy.

Maybe He's not listening to me. Maybe He doesn't care. But God's Word for Habakkuk and for us is the encouragement and command to trust His Word and to wait faithfully for the Day when His promise will come to pass and our prayers will be answered with His love and justice.

INVOCATION AND SHARING OF THE PEACE 启礼、问安 P: In the name of the Father and the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 C: Amen

A: The Peace of the Lord be with you all. C:And also with you. A:Please greet those around you, shaking their hands and saying “Peace be with you!”

# 056 Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart 1 Spirit of God, descend upon my heart; Wean it from earth, through all its pulses move; Stoop my weakness, mighty as Thou art, And make me love Thee as I ought to love.

# 056 Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart 2 I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies, No sudden rending of the veil of clay, No angel visitant, no op'ning skies, But take the dimness of my soul away.

# 056 Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart 3 Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh; Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear; To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh; Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.

# 056 Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart 4 Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love, One holy passion filling all my frame; The kindling of the heav'n descended Dove. My heart an altar, and Thy love the flame. Amen.

RESPONSIVE PSALM P: Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. C: He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. P: My salvation and my honor depend on God; C: He is my mighty rock, my refuge.

P: Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, C: for God is our refuge.

KYRIE P: Lord, have mercy upon us! C: Christ, have mercy upon us! P: Lord, have mercy upon us! C: Amen!

CONFESSION P: Because of our sin and failure and shame, we have no rest. Our souls are in a state of unrest. But today, God calls us. He calls us to come to Him and find rest. He calls us to come to Him and find home.

P: He calls us to trust in Him and pour out our hearts to Him and find the refuge of His forgiveness through Jesus Christ, our Savior. And so at this time, I invite you all to come before God and confess your sins so that you can find rest in God, your rock and your salvation. (Silence for personal confession.)

P: Let us now confess our sins together: C: O God, we need the rest that comes from you alone. We come today burdened by our sin, our shame, and our failures. We come knowing that this burden is too great for us. And so we pour out our hearts to you.

C: O God, we have sinned against you. We have not loved you with all of our hearts. We have looked away from you to false gods: to money, power, status, and lust. In the same way, we have also failed to love others.

C: Rather than caring about those around us, we have often been selfish, self-seeking, greedy, angry, and careless. O Lord, help us! Give us rest and refuge. Forgive us and restore us with your great love and your mighty works, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen!

P: In His mercy, God has given you rest. God's rest comes to you through the work of Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for you on the cross. He suffered and died in order that you would be completely forgiven and your relationship with God would be restored.

P: And because of His grace and mercy, you have rest and can take refuge in God, your Savior. For this reason I announce the grace of God to you all. Upon your confession and by the command of our Lord, Jesus Christ, I declare that all of your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen! C: Amen

APOSTLES’ CREED 使徒信经 I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.

He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Musical Offering 诗班献诗 Father, Lead Me Day by Day

Father, lead me day by day, Ever in Thine own strong way: Help me always to be true, Show me what I ought to do.

When in danger make me brave, Make me know that Thou canst save, Keep me safely by Thy side, Let me in Thy love abide.

When I tempted to do wrong, Make me steadfast, wise and strong; And when all alone I stand, shield me with Thy mighty hand. Amen, Amen, Amen.

Luke 17:1–10 P: Please rise for the reading of the Gospel. P: The Holy Gospel for today is from the book of Luke chapter 17, verses 1-10, found on page 140 in the New Testament. P: Let us read God’s Word together:

1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.

3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him." 5 The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"

6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you. 7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'?

8 Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' "

A: This is the word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God

SERMON 讲道 How Long, O Lord? (Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4) Pastor Shaun Daugherty

# 277 I Know Whom I Believed 1 I know not why God’s wondrous grace To me He hath made known, Nor why unworthy Christ in love Redeemed me for His own. But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve commited Unto Him against that day.

# 277 I Know Whom I Believed 2 I know not how this saving faith To me He did impart, Nor how believing in His word Wrought peace within my heart. But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve commited Unto Him against that day.

# 277 I Know Whom I Believed 3 I know not how the Spirit moves Convincing men of sin, Revealing Jesus thro’ the Word, Creating faith in Him. But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve commited Unto Him against that day.

# 277 I Know Whom I Believed 4 I know not what of good or ill May be reserved for me, Of weary ways or golden days, Before His face I see. But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve commited Unto Him against that day. Amen.

RESPONSIVE PSALM: A: My soul finds rest in God alone; C: my salvation comes from him. A: He alone is my rock and my salvation; C: He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

RESPONSIVE PSALM: A: One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: C: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving.

A: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; C: as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen. GLORIA PATRI

A: Let us pray for patience, endurance and strength when we face injustice and unanswered prayers. (Each person may pray aloud or quietly at this time.) PRAYERS of the CHURCH 教会的祷告

P: Kind and loving God, we believe that you are with us always and that your promises to us will never fail. Yet in this life we will face hardship, suffering, struggles and injustice. And when we cry out to you, we long for you to hear our prayers and to answer them with your mercy and loving kindness.

P: Even so, when know that the your ways are greater than our ways and your timing better than ours. There will be times when we must wait. And in that waiting we pray that you would give us everything we need. Help us not to turn away from you in doubt, or to question your wisdom or your love.

P: Instead, give us patience to wait faithfully. Give us endurance so that we do are able to stand under the weight of suffering and injustice. And give us the strength to hold onto your promises no matter what we face in this life.

P: Lord, in your Mercy. C: Hear our prayers.

A: Let us pray that God would help us live by faith each day and use us also to encourage others to trust in Him. (Each person may pray aloud or quietly at this time.)

P: Merciful God, help us. We are weak and easily swayed by our fears and our doubts. We can easily be turned away from your promise and consumed with anger, resentment and worry. But instead, Lord, fill us with faith. Help us to always remember your promises.

P: Even when we face the darkest and most difficult days of our lives, remind us that you are with us, remind us that we are forgiven, and remind us that you have a hope and a future for us in your eternal kingdom.

P: Help us to truly entrust our lives, our hearts, our families and all that we have into your hands, knowing that you are good and your love endures forever. And as you fill us with faith, help us to also to be an encouragement to others who face trials.

P: Help us to share your word with those who are tempted with doubt and remind them of those same promises that give us hope, now and forever.

P: Lord, in your Mercy. C: Hear our prayers.

A: Let us pray for all those people and needs that are in our thoughts at this time. (Each person may pray aloud or quietly at this time.)

P: We pray especially today for... P: Lord, in your Mercy. C: Hear our prayers.

LORD’S PRAYER 主祷文 P: Into your hands we entrust all for whom we pray, and we pray together the prayer that Jesus taught us, saying, C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

C: Forgive us our sins As we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
