TRANSITION To move from one place to another High School Graduation Postsecondary Education (PSE) Destinations As of 23 Sept. 2016

Preparation KNOWLEDGE IS POWER Review Credit Counselling Summary–diploma requirements on track for June graduation, “legal name ” (used on applications) Finish 40 hrs. Community Service Research - complete interest surveys, attend University and College Fairs and Campuses Build a list of potential programs and schools Match programs of interest against your CCS courses and by cutoff ranges for eligibility.

Prerequisites ? How do I know which secondary school courses are required by the college or university I am applying to? University - Degree Lists prerequisites and approximate averages for different programs. Indicates if Co-op or Internships are available 6 -4U/4M courses including ENG4U1 plus prerequisites Additional requirements Some College programs are University “degrees” College - Diploma Lists prerequisites and additional application requirements Indicates if Co-op or Internships are available ENG4C1 or ENG4U1, plus grade 11 and /or 12 prerequisites Additional requirements

College Application $95 for 5 choices (non-refundable) Maximum of 3 choices to any 1 college (i.e. max. of 3 different programs at Humber) Create own password, remember to record in a safe location Opens about mid-October and recommend applying before Christmas holidays

College Important Dates October – College Fair Oct and Online applications “open” later this month at December 23 rd Iona pre-holiday deadline February 1 st Deadline for equal consideration May 1 st Last day to confirm offer acceptance June 15 – Earliest due date for college tuition deposit payment

University Application $150 for 3 choices, $50 for each additional choice, no maximum (Ontario) Application for current HS students early to mid November, Individual “PIN” numbers distributed from Guidance when received from OUAC (announcement) Apply before Christmas holidays Good info on

University Important Dates September/October - attend University Fair (Sept ), College Fair (Oct ) and research programs November – apply with PIN# December 23 – Iona’s recommended pre holiday deadline January 11 – OUAC deadline for equal consideration of submitted applications (system is very slow in January) May 26 – Last day for responses to be released to applicants June 1 – Earliest date you may be required to confirm acceptance of an offer and give financial commitment

Will I get in???? College applicants could hear as early as Feb. 1 BUT most will wait until April. University applicants will hear through 3 different rounds of offers to May 26 th *majority of acceptances are in 3 rd round 1 st – exceptional gr. 11 marks and the correct prerequisites in the gr. 12 schedule 2 nd – exceptional gr. 12 first semester marks 3 rd – marks in the acceptance range based on gr st semester + 2 nd semester midterms

How much will it cost? Per Year - If living AWAY from home: College - approx $ University - approx $ Note that program costs, and city living costs vary.  Scholarships – Student Awards – check online sites and Scholarship Binder in Guidance  RESP grant of 20% on deposits  OSAP – Ontario Student Assistance Program – apply in April-May after accepting offer **30% Off Ontario tuition for students who apply for OSAP
