Sensors

Sensors gyroscope The gyroscope is a sensor that can provide orientation information as well. This sensor can tell how much a phone has been rotated and in which direction. It is also used by Google’s Sky Map for telling what constellation you’re pointing a phone at.

Sensors magnetometer Sensor that most smartphones have is magnetometer, this sensor is able to detect magnetic fields. This sensor is used by compass apps to use to point at the planets north pole.

Proximity sensor Proximity sensor is comprised of an infrared LED and an IR light detector. It is located near the earpiece of a phone. When you place the handset up to your ear, the sensor lets the system know that you’re probably in a call and the screen is turned off so you don’t press any buttons during the call and also it saves battery.

Sensor light Light sensor measures how bright the ambient light is. This way the software uses this to adjust the displays brightness automatically, when its dark the display is dimmed down. When the light is plentiful the screens brightness is increased.

Sensors barometer Higher-end phones have built in barometer, it’s a sensor that can measure atmospheric pressure. It is used to determine how high the device is above sea level. This improves GPS accuracy.

Thermometer sensor This sensor is for measuring ambient temperature. There’s a thermometer in any smartphone, and some handsets might have more that one of them. The difference is that they’re used to monitor the temperature inside the device and its battery. This sensors prevents the phone from over heating, the system shuts itself down to prevent the damage.

Pedometer sensor Pedometer is a sensor used to count the number of steps that the user has taken. This data is usually obtained by the devices accelerometer, but a dedicated pedometer is more accurate and power effcient.

Heart rate monitor This sensor is made to measure someone's pulse, it does that by detecting the minute pulsations of the blood vessels inside the finger, to calculate the average pulse and whether the person’s pulse is too high/low.

Fingerprint sensor The fingerprint sensor is built into a number of smartphones such as iPhone 5s, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One Max. 5s has the sensor so it doesn’t require swiping in order to read fingerprint data. Fingerprint scanners are often used for extra security as a substitute for a lock screen password.

Wi Fi Wi Fi is not built in, in every smart phone. It gives the flexibility of using it when you’re away from home, and sending s or anything that you need to do that requires Wi Fi.

BlueTooth Bluetooth sensor allows you exchange or synchronize data between Bluetooth enabled computers and devices. You can se a Bluetooth enabled wireless keyboard or mouse which makes it easier to use. Also connect wirelessly to a Bluetooth compatible printer, headset, headphones, or speakers. You can share your internet connection with other Bluetooth enabled devices.

Camera The camera sensor is built in, in all of the smart phones, this sensor allows you to take pictures any time you want. It captures details and takes good quality pictures unless your camera isn’t as good. The pictures you take always save automatically to your camera roll.

Light sensor The light sensor controls the brightness of the screen, for example when its dark the brightness will go down, and when its really light the brightness increases so you can clearly see your phone. Also the light sensor saves battery percentage.
