Year 7 Digging Deeper Democracy Day

Have your say! Go to the following website: kahoot.it Then enter the game pin that your teacher gives you. 13f1-481f-867b-d2289b1b19b2

Have your say! Did you feel it was important to be able to have your say? How would you have felt if you had not been allowed to vote? Do you think there should have been criteria to vote, e.g. Good behaviour?

Session Objective Should anyone ever be allowed to lose their right to vote? What are your first thoughts on this question? Do you agree or disagree? What are your first thoughts on this question? Do you agree or disagree?

Who most deserves to lose their right to vote? In your groups you are going to be given 4 scenario cards. You will need to read these through together as a group. You will have 5 minutes to decide who you think most deserves to lose their right to vote and be able to explain why. Your group will need to remain standing as you are coming to a decision, you can only sit down when your whole group has agreed!

Who most deserves to lose their right to vote? Did you all choose the same person? Why/why not? Did you all choose the same person? Why/why not? Was this a fair activity? Did any of them deserve to lose their vote? Was this a fair activity? Did any of them deserve to lose their vote?

Breaking News! Wildern School have now decided that Year 7 students will not be allowed to participate in the vote during p.4 if you have failed to hand in your homework on time on more than one occasion.

Angry Letter of Complaint You are going to write an angry letter of complaint. Either saying how outraged you are that some students cannot vote – you think they should be allowed to participate anyway. OR write an angry/persuasive letter explaining why you think this is fair and should happen.

Final Thoughts Should anyone ever be allowed to lose their right to vote? Has anything during this lesson made you change your mind or convinced you further?
