DEMOCRACY LO. TO EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DEMOCRACY AND DICTATORSHIP TO CONSIDER WHY WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY Here are photos from the general election. Describe what happens and why.

WHAT IS A DEMOCRACY? People choose their leaders. Everybody over 18 can vote. Choice of political groups or parties to vote for

WHAT IS A DEMOCRACY? The country decides on the leader by voting, and this will happen every few years. Even the government must obey the laws. People have freedom of speech.

What is a Dictatorship?

NO CHOICE… In a Dictatorship, you don’t have a choice in who you vote for … If elections ‘allowed’ only one choice  You cannot vote a dictator out of power

WHAT IS A DICTATORSHIP? Government uses any means to stay in power for as long as they can. The Government makes their own rules. People are not allowed to criticise the government or worship the religion of their choice.
