Geometry: Section 2.4 Algebraic Reasoning

What you will learn: 1. Use Algebraic Properties of Equality to justify the steps in solving an equation. 2. Use the Distributive Property to justify the steps in solving an equation. 3.Use properties of equality involving segment lengths and angle measures.

When you solve an equation, you use properties of real numbers. Segment lengths and angle measures are real numbers, so you can use these properties to write logical arguments about geometric figures.

The following properties of equality are true for all real numbers. Since segment lengths and angle measures are real numbers, these properties are true for these as well.

Reflexive Property of Equality: ____________________ Symmetric Property of Equality: ___________________ Transitive Property: _____________________________
