Agenda Why do we go to DFSC in Year4? When is it? How much does it cost? Do the children have to go? Will the children be safe?

Why do we go to DFSC? Environmental education linked to our Summer science and geography work. Outdoor and adventurous activities. Confidence building. Preparation for PGL week in Y6

Dean Field Studies Centre The Dean Field Studies Centre is based at Parkend in the Forest of Dean. It is a residential outdoor education centre providing adventurous outdoor activities and environmental education. The centre itself is based in a converted Victorian iron works in the village. It can accommodate up to 60 students. Children will be staying in the centre and then using the surrounding forest, fields and purpose-built classroom and science lab to complete their activities.

When is it? Wednesday 10 th – Friday 12 th May, 2017 (2 nights, 3 days)

How much does it cost? Total cost is £195. Deposit of £60 due by 14 th October. The total amount can be paid in instalments (£60 by 14 th Oct, £40 by13th Jan, £40 by 10 th Feb, £40 by 10 th Mar, £15 by 7 th Apr). Alternatively you can pay in weekly instalments If you would like your child to go on the trip, but think you may have difficulty paying the full amount, please make an appointment to discuss it with the Head Teacher.

What is included in the cost? Cost £195 All activities Accommodation Transport there and back All meals School insurance

Do the children have to go? Whether your child goes on the trip is up to you and your child. We would recommend it for all.

Will the children be safe? DFSC is a very safe environment. All staff are trained and experienced. Safety equipment is provided. CC staff remain with the children at all times. The building is secured by CC staff at night.

Getting the right safety equipment for the job

When will I find out more? Please feel free to come and ask us any questions you may have. There will be another meeting for parents in the Spring term. Details about staffing, activities, kit list etc. will be provided then.
