Progress Report Sara Breit David Mills Dylan Ham Daniela Castro

Overview  Tasks  Previous Period (what we did)  Current Period (what we’re doing)  Next Period (what we’re going to do)  Visual examples of what the GeoJays are working on

Tasks  Create Reference map(s) and summarize bird count data for Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center  Task 1: pre-processing avian data according to region  Task 2: Delineating boundaries  Task 3: Bird watching routes  Task 4: Post- processing features, avian data and routes  Task 5: Aesthetics and map generalization  Scope has not changed  Problem due to region boundary changes over the years

Timeline  September 23 rd – October 28 th  September 2 nd – 23 rd  October 29 th – November 30 th Data Collection Data Entry Data Collection Data Entry Map Analysis Design Data Collection Data Entry Map Analysis Processing Web Design Quality Control

Previous Period  Created Excel sheets comprised of comprehensive bird count data per year, per species counted  Created regional bird count sheets…  Circle and regions delineated  Added roads, counties, supervised land cover, comprehensive bird count data  Sketched idealized maps of final project and started creating a graphic reference map in Adobe Illustrator

Current Westcave Circle Map Regions 1-10, Water Features, Roads and supervised land cover image

Current Period  Meeting with client (you!) today to discuss the next step  Creating features in Adobe Illustrator  Looking for DEM  Will be important for topographic lines and cost surface data  Useful to create trails to bird hotspots

Graphic Reference Map

Next Period  Bird population data will be analyzed and visualizations will be created on the maps.  Clarification of regions from WODC, common routes traversed, depiction of important natural features and barriers the volunteers may encounter.  Map design and graphics (Adobe Illustrator and ArcMap)  Expert Statistician Consultation
