His total cost of $1,331 included sales tax at the rate of 8% and an additional, untaxed delivery charge of $35. How much sales tax did he pay?

The total cost of her ticket, with the discount, was $ Write an equation she could use to find the price of the ticket without the discount. x = the orginial cost of the plane ticket original cost – discount = cost with discount x – 0.15(x) = Lucas bought a refrigerator. His total cost of $1,331 included sales tax at the rate of 8% and an additional, untaxed delivery charge of $35. How much sales tax did he pay? r = the orginial cost of the refrigerator original cost + sales tax + delivery charge = total cost r (r) + 35 = 1331 r (r) = 1296 (this is the cost before delivery charge) 1.08r = 1296 r = 1200 (be careful – this is the original cost!) 1296 – 1200 = $96
