filibuster – an adventurer who engages in private rebellious activity in a foreign country For Example: In 1800, Philip Nolan, perhaps the most famous filibuster, came to Texas to catch and sell wild mustangs. In 1801, the Spanish became suspicious of him and later executed him because of the fear that the filibuster wanted to take Texas away from Spain.
