Predators and prey By:Joshua and Kel

How predators see and smell. Many predators' eyes are on the front of their heads. They look straight ahead to spot prey. Many prey animals, such as deer have eyes on the sides of their heads. They can see predators charging at them from behind.

How predators hear Many mammal predators count their sense of hearing. They often hear their prey before they see it. Then animals know where to look for prey. Birds also have a good sence of hearing.

Some prey defences Some prey animals have special defences that help protect them from predators. One defenc is camouflage. With camouflage an animal blends in with its surroundings.

More prey defences Some prey animals use piosons that can harm predators. Poisonous animals are often brightly colored. Some animals mimic, or copy the colors of other animals, even though they are not poisonous themself.

Finding a balance Predators and prey have a special relationship. They work together to help keep nature in balance. For many years,Yellowstone National Park was a home to wolves and elk The wolves ate the elk. Over time people killed them.
