 How can students determine if they are on track for graduation?  How can students prepare themselves for postsecondary goals?

 At the conclusion of the presentation, students will: ◦ Understand the requirements for graduation ◦ Identify their specific graduation requirements while reviewing transcripts with counselors

 High School Graduation Requirements plus the following:  World Languages: 2 years minimum of the same language ◦ Example: Spanish I and Spanish II  4 Years Math: Algebra I and higher  4 Years Science: Biology, Chemistry, and additional lab sciences encouraged  SAT/ACT scores sent directly to college(s) of choice  Community service hours/participation in leadership activities  GPA IS RECALCULATED BY EACH COLLEGE BASED ON CORE ACADEMIC CLASSES

 Take Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test on October 19 th (PSAT/NMSQT)  Meet with college reps as they visit DPHS. Attend college night at VCC  Determine whether your high school courses are meeting college admission requirements. Review your transcripts!  Discuss future plans with parents/guardians, including financial needs, estimated costs, etc. Contact colleges and look for resources in the College/Career Center and check websites. Do college searches. Start early so you are ready senior year.  Schedule individual and/or parent conference with your counselor to discuss future goals.

 Investigate potential summer experiences, including work, summer school, special workshops and college- bound programs.  Register for and take ACT/SAT Semester 2.  Begin your scholarship search.  Do volunteer service hours.  Select appropriate senior year courses to meet college requirements. This is VERY important. Colleges look at the strength of your senior schedule!  During spring break and/or summer, visit colleges and technical schools. Have a plan in place before you begin your senior year!

 3.0 weighted GPA using the credits listed below:  4 English (3 with substantial writing)  4 Mathematics (Algebra I level and above)  3 Natural Science (2 with substantial lab)  3 Social Science  2 World Language (sequential, in the same language)  Community Service: 75 hours, as approved by your counselor  Test Scores: SAT-1170 ACT-26

 Note: This scholarship only provides funding to students attending a technical/vocational school, or 2 year college  3.0 weighted GPA using the 16 core credits required for high school graduation  4 English  4 Mathematics (including Algebra I)  3 Natural Science (2 with lab component)  3 Social Science (U.S. Hist., World Hist., U.S. Govt. and Economics)  1 Fine; OR Identified Practical Art; OR.5 credit in each  1 Physical Education (to include integration of health) AND…………

 A 3.5 unweighted GPA in a minimum of three Career and Technical Education credits in one vocational program (taken over two academic years)  Community Service: 30 hours, as approved by your counselor  Test Scores : One of the following: SAT Reasoning Test: Critical Reading Math440 ACT: English Reading Math PERT:Reading Writing Math

 Community Service is NOT required for graduation, but is required for the Bright Futures Scholarships.  Community Service looks good on a resume’.  Please follow the guidelines carefully to complete community service:

 Obtain Community Service Forms from Guidance  Select a community service organization that’s right for you  Create a plan that includes a brief written description of the service you will provide for the organization  Have the plan approved by your counselor  Provide the service, log and tally the hours  Get the necessary signatures (parent, supervisor, and your own)  Write a post-reflection about the service you provided  Hour log and documentation must be submitted to your school counselor to receive credit on transcript
