Introduction to Sally Potter British, European and Global female film maker. Interested in feminist film theorists and the representation of the female body. Known for challenging genre boundaries.

Quote “I always work under the illusion that I'm starting from scratch…But the questions of belief, mortality, personal and political relations, male-female dynamics, identity and exile are…running themes that have taken different forms in my work.” (McKim, K. 2000)

Clips of Potter’s work The Tango Lesson 3w&mode=related&searchhttp:// 3w&mode=related&search=

Reasons for choosing Sally Potter & Ideas for Draft Film Use of natural and stage light. Shadows. Relationships/consciousness/human effect. Camera angles and shots – close ups of face and lower body. Location of filming.

Quote “Potter’s series uses interviews with a wide range of personalities and film clips from mostly British films to explore the nature of human effect, and to find a space for emotions in the personal and collective British consciousness.” (Tasker, Y p.276)

Draft Films

Evaluation of Filming and Editing What worked well: Use of overlay. Filming in location. Natural Light What didn’t work well: Performing movement in location. More filming angles.

Plan of Action Focus specifically on ‘The Tango Lesson’ for the dance film. The use of light. Camera angles focusing on specific body parts. Choosing the right location for our objective. Use Potter’s style of filming and editing.
